SEOUL – South Korean films The Terror Live and Hope both enjoyed successful sales at the Asian Film Market, which opened in Busan Oct. 7-10, local distributor Lotte Entertainment announced Tuesday.

The Terror Live, one of the biggest Korean box office hits of the summer at more than $38 million, was picked up by buyers from seven Asian territories: Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Taiwan.

The film, about a news anchorman who must report a terrorism case while being threatened by the terrorist in real time on national TV, also opened across theaters in 20 North American cities.

"We expect more contracts in the near future with European buyers that expressed great interest in the film during the Asian Film Market," said Byeon Eunhye of Lotte Entertainment.

Hope, a drama about child sexual abuse, was released recently in Korean theaters on Oct. 2. It has been sold to six territories near home: Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

“Though we could tell the film would be very tough, it blew all of those worries away once we saw it," said a spokesperson for Japan's At Entertianment. "We think this brilliant film will touch the audience's heart in our country as well. We are proud to release this film and will do our best to distribute it all over Japan.”

Lotte Entertainment plans to bring more titles that will make their market debuts at American Film Market next month. The lineup includes Friend: The Great Legacy, the sequel to the 2001 sensation Friend, as well as romantic comedies Queen of the Night and Steal My Heart.

The American Film Market will open Nov. 6-13 in Santa Monica.
